anthropogenic influence, which are the
liquidious waste released from domestic
homes, industries, hospitals, agricultural,
commercial sectors and pharmaceutical
sectors. In the research analysis I conducted
in the university teaching hospitals of Kigali
(CHUK), as a hospital water is used in every
departments of the hospital, that water after
being used in different department is turned
into waste water which is contaminated by
different hazardous substances.
Hospital wastewater (HWW) contain
hazardous substances, such as
pharmaceutical residues, chemical hazardous
substances, pathogens, and radioisotopes.
Due to these substances, hospital wastewater
represent a chemical, biological, and physical
risk for public and environmental health.
Nevertheless, very frequently there are no
legal requirements for hospital effluent
treatment prior to its discharge into the
municipal collector or directly onto surface
water after pretreatment.
Basically after the pretreatment process the
effluents from CHUK hospital waste water
treatment plant are evacuated in the
environment without being monitored yet
that wastewater can comprises of several
microorganisms, heavy metals, nutrients,
radionuclides and pharmaceutical, that can
escape pretreatment affects the environment,
damage the aquatic life and pollute the
The study design the researcher used to come
up with waste water monitoring system are
modeling and laboratory. These study design
helps the researcher to understand well the
concepts in waste water treatment,
contaminants it contains and its side effects
on the environment, by using the modeling
study design helps the researcher to come up
with a new innovation to measure the quality
of water in a real time.
In additional to that the Laboratory study
design helps the researcher to understand
water quality monitoring process by
understanding well the basic water
parameters to depend on by deciding if water
is clean or unclean. The laboratory was used
to calibrate and study how water parameters
change and react.
The basic water parameter data the device
measures are PH, Temperature, Conductivity
and Turbidity those parameter are basic water
parameter which helps an end user to know if
the waste water is safe to be released in the
environment. The measured water quality
data by aid of GSM technology I have used,
are transferred to the cloud web platform for
reporting and data storage effectively.
This study project will helps to tackle and
solve the problem of environmental
degradation and destruction of aquatic life as
every effluents from waste water treatment
plant will be monitored and controlled before
being dumped in the environment.
