ABSTRACT:

This research aimed at analyzing “The Socio-Economic and Financial Development Contribution of Rwanda Social Security Board for Growth and Poverty Reduction”, the objectives are to identify and assess the contributions of RSSB to socio-economic and financial development; to assess whether the identified contributions of RSSB meet socio-economic and financial development prescribed in EDPRS and; to provide necessary recommendations on how the contributions of RSSB could better meet prescribed socio-economic and financial development.

The population of the study is 309,024 people composed of 280,891 contributors, 27,883 pensioners and 250 RSSB staff. The selected sample for the study became 60 people composed of 20 beneficiaries, 20 RSSB Staff and 20 government officials.

The researcher used quantitative and qualitative research techniques whereby questionnaire, interview guide and observation were employed. The findings were done in accordance with the objectives and research questions of the study. For data collection, questionnaires have been administered to the above groups, interviews have been conducted in the field and reports have been consulted for this purpose.

The study revealed that RSSB made contributions to socio-economic and financial development because it has contributed significantly to economic growth, saving mobilization and investment, government tax collection and job creation.

After analyzing the data obtained, the research study confirmed that RSSB contributions meet socio-economic and financial development prescribed in EDPRS. The respondents and different reports testify it.

For that reason this study recommends to the GoR to set a specific socio-economic and financial development policy. It recommends also RSSB to prioritize the living conditions of its members, in increasing benefits determined by law.
